Lance Massey

A secondary-school teacher who builds and ships software. I build classroom tools: maths manipulatives, worksheets that grade by mathematical value, VR math rooms, and games. I also build full-stack apps to a professional standard. The parts I care most about are the ones that are easy to skip: tests on the maths, accessibility, and writing down why a decision was made.

Math Tools

For students · classroom manipulatives

Algebra tiles, a balance scale, fractions, a number line, place value and probability, all in the browser. The balance scale solves for x on either side, fractions and negatives included, and it has tests that prove it.

VR Math Rooms

For students · Meta Quest headset

Plot points and read off the slope, stand on y = mx + b and feel the hill change as m changes, and test the 50/30/20 budget rule on real take-home pay. You move by blinking instead of gliding, to spare stomachs.

Games Arcade

For classrooms and families · no install

Party, carnival and kids' games in one searchable catalog, plus maths worksheets that accept 2(x+3) for 2x+6. Every new game is played on phone and tablet screens each night by a test that presses Start and plays it.

Canopy HR

Full-stack product · built to a professional standard

A complete HR platform covering hiring, onboarding, time off, timesheets, payroll, reviews and surveys. One approval engine handles every request type. Role checks are enforced on the server, and every page passes axe-core accessibility checks in light and dark themes.

Paper Edit

Creator tool · runs entirely on your own machine

Edit long-form video and podcasts by editing the transcript, with no cloud, no subscription and no account. Export went from about 30 minutes to about 4, checked frame by frame against the old output.

Amigo

Local AI at home · code private

A local-only AI assistant where nothing leaves the house. Language models and speech run on a home GPU, a Raspberry Pi wakes the desktop when it's needed, and there's a microcontroller on the desk and games for my kids. It keeps a dated log of what broke and why.

How I work

  • Test the maths, not just the pageChecking my own worksheet grader turned up 716 wrong answers it was accepting. It now accepts none, and a weekly check runs against the live sites.
  • Design with the student, not for themMy son is the client for the kids' tools. One sentence from him redirected a design I'd spent five versions on.
  • Ship on a teacher's scheduleEach fix becomes a one-line step that I can run and verify from my phone, so work gets live in the evening between grading and bedtime.
